Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (g proteins) are involved as a modulator or transducer in various transmembrane signaling systems, by integrating signals between receptors and effector proteins. G proteins are composed of an alpha, a beta, and a gamma subunit. This gene encodes a 34 kd beta subunit, being expressed in all tissues.
