Background Information
HMCN2 (Hemicentin-2) is a large extracellular matrix protein belonging to the fibronectin family. HMCN2 proteins form a complex network of microfibrils in the extracellular matrix that is essential for the maintenance of tissue structure and function. HMCN2 is expressed in epithelial cells and muscle tissues, and may play an important role in muscle-tendon attachment. HMCN2 expression and localization suggests that it has an important role in maintaining the integrity of skin and muscle tissue. It may maintain tissue structure and function by interacting with other extracellular matrix proteins, such as fibronectin and elastic fibers.
