Background Information
Rio-kinase 2 (RIOK2) is an atypical serine-threonine kinase that participates in the nuclear export and maturation steps of the pre-40S ribosomal complex to facilitate cytoplasmic translation. RIOK2 binds the pre-40S subunit and promotes its nuclear export by interaction with the CRM1 chaperone protein.
