Background Information
KCNK18, also named as TRESK and TRIK, is an outward rectifying potassium channel which produces rapidly activating outward rectifier K+ currents. It may function as background potassium channel that sets the resting membrane potential. KCNK18 is inhibited by arachidonic acid and other naturally occurring unsaturated free fatty acids. KCNK18 channel activity is enhanced by volatile anesthetics, such as isoflurane.
