Background Information

Kallikrein 6 (KLK6, also named neurosin) is a secreted serine protease encoded by the KLK6 gene on human chromosome 19q13.41. It is highly expressed in the central nervous system and epithelial tissues. KLK6 participates in extracellular matrix remodeling, regulates amyloid and α-synuclein metabolism, and modulates inflammatory responses. Dysregulated KLK6 facilitates tumor invasion and metastasis in multiple malignancies. It is regarded as a valuable diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for cancers and neurodegenerative diseases, representing a promising therapeutic target. (PMID: 35883559)
