Background Information

Lipocalin 15 (LCN15) is a newly recognized extracellular polypeptide within the calycin superfamily, encoded on human chromosome 9q34.3. Characterized by an 8-stranded β-barrel architecture, it specializes in binding lipophilic molecules. Functionally, LCN15 serves as an abundant component and key biological indicator of olfactory mucus activity, highly specific to Bowman's glands.(PMID: 11058743; PMID: 35750866)
