Background Information
The MYC gene family consists of 3 members, C-MYC, L-MYC, and N-MYC, all of which belong to the superfamily of basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper (bHLHLZ) DNA binding proteins. L-MYC encodes a nuclear phosphoprotein with 364 amino acids, heterodimerizing with partner protein Max and acts as a transcription factor to control the expression of target genes. L-Myc is involved in many biological processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and has been found to be amplified and over-expressed in some malignancies. L-Myc amplification has been reported in small-cell lung cancer (PMID: 25528583, 33524794). The observed molecular weight of L-Myc is 68 kDa, which is consistent with the description in the literature (PMID: 8657155).
