Background Information
NDUFB5 (NADH: Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase Subunit B5) is a 16 kDa accessory subunit of mitochondrial respiratory chain Complex I (NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase) in humans. NDUFB5 is a non-catalytic accessory subunit of mitochondrial Complex I essential for proper assembly and function of the respiratory chain. It is ubiquitously expressed, highly conserved across species, and anchored in the mitochondrial inner membrane. While not directly involved in catalysis, it plays a structural and regulatory role in Complex I integrity, and its dysfunction may contribute to mitochondrial diseases and certain cancers.
