Background Information

NDUFS8 is encoded by a nuclear gene and is a member of the respiratory chain complex I. Respiratory chain complex I (CI; NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase), one of the largest membrane-bound protein complexes in the human cell, is essential for oxidative energy metabolism as it powers ATP synthesis by using the reducing potential of NADH to proton translocation across the inner mitochondrial membrane.
