Background Information
Guanine nucleotide binding protein (G protein), alpha stimulating activity polypeptide 1 (GNAS1) is the ubiquitously expressed heterotrimeric G protein that couples receptors to the effector enzyme adenylyl cyclase and is required for receptor-stimulated intracellular cAMP generation. Mutations of Gs(alpha) residues involved in the GTPase reaction that lead to constitutive activation are present in endocrine tumors, fibrous dysplasia of bone, and McCune-Albright syndrome. The near two bands represent two different isoforms. The expression profile/molecular weight observed are consistent with what has been described in the literature (PMID : 3258290).
