Background Information
The NETO1 protein (neuropilin and tolloid-like protein 1) is a member of the NETO family. It is a type I transmembrane protein primarily expressed in the central nervous system. Serving as an important auxiliary subunit of glutamate receptors (especially kainate receptors and NMDA receptors), NETO1 plays a critical role in synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory by regulating receptor trafficking, gating properties, and synaptic localization. Its abnormalities are associated with neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and epilepsy.
