Background Information
POC5 (POC5 Centriolar Protein) is a conserved protein essential for the assembly and structural integrity of the centriole, a core component of the centrosome and cilia. Localized to the distal portion of the centriole, it plays a critical role in centriole elongation, stabilization, and the maintenance of its characteristic nine-fold symmetric microtubule arrangement. By ensuring accurate centriole duplication, POC5 contributes to proper mitotic spindle formation and faithful chromosome segregation during cell division.
