Background Information
The RGP1 protein (also known as KIAA0258 or RAB6A-GEF complex chaperone protein 2) belongs to the RGP1 protein family and serves as a core component of the RIC1-RGP1 complex. It functions as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) by specifically binding to and activating the small GTPase RAB6A (promoting its conversion from the GDP-bound inactive state to the GTP-bound active state), thereby regulating the retrograde transport of endocytosis-derived vesicles from late endosomes to the Golgi apparatus and participating in the recycling of the mannose-6-phosphate receptor. It plays a critical role in maintaining Golgi structure and function, as well as in regulating intracellular protein trafficking.
