Background Information
The T cell lineage-restricted protein THEMIS, also called C6orf190 and C6orf207, plays a critical role in T cell development at the positive selection stage (PMID: 37159521). THEMIS plays a central role in late thymocyte development by controlling both positive and negative T-cell selection. It is required to sustain and/or integrate signals required for proper lineage commitment and maturation of T-cells and regulates T-cell development through T-cell antigen receptor (TCR) signaling (PMID: 28697966, 28250424). It can also promote the proliferative response of CD8+ T cells to low-affinity ligands (PMID: 31932808).
