Background Information

TTC26 (Tetratricopeptide repeat protein 26), also known as IFT56 (Intraflagellar transport protein 56), is an IFT complex B protein, which has a role in transport of ciliary cargo, important for ciliary motility and construction of full length cilia (PMID: 38135897). Severe biliary ciliopathy, caused by bi-allelic mutations in TTC26, has been recently described in the context of a syndrome of polydactyly and severe neonatal cholestasis, with brain, kidney and heart involvement (PMID: 32617964).
