Background Information
Ubiquitin-specific protease (USP)19 is a recently identified deubiquitinating enzyme (DUB) having multiple splice variants and cellular functions. Since the sum of molecular weights of the two small bands (65 kDa+120 kDa) approximates the size of the full-length protein (~185 kDa), USP19 is likely to be endoproteolytically cleaved. Interestingly, the small bands were not observed when the DUB activity was inactivated, suggesting that the cleavage of USP19 depends on its DUB activity (PMID: 25088257).
