Background Information
Claudin-19 is a critical transmembrane protein and belongs to the claudin family, which are the primary structural and functional components of tight junctions (TJs) in epithelial and endothelial cell sheets. Mutations in the CLDN19 are primarily associated with Familial Hypomagnesemia with Hypercalciuria and Nephrocalcinosis (FHHNC) with severe ocular involvement (PMID: 17389678). In breast cancer, Claudin-19 expression is frequently lost or downregulated, which correlates with poor patient prognosis (PMID: 15883201, 37344378).
