Background
MFAP5 (microfibril-associated protein 5), also known as MAGP-2, is a secreted extracellular matrix glycoprotein, not a membrane protein in the traditional sense. As a component of microfibrils, it is typically secreted into the extracellular space and assembles onto fibrillin-containing microfibrils, mediating cell-fibril adhesion through binding to integrin αVβ3. Its main functions include elastic fiber assembly, mediating cell signaling (such as the MAPK/ERK pathway), and regulating cell behavior in development and disease.
