Background Information
The B3GNT6 protein, also known as core 3 synthase, is a member of the O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) family and adds an N-acetylglucosamine to N-acetylgalactosamine-modifed serine or threonine. The B3GNT6 protein is responsible for the formation of the core 3 structure of O-glycans, which are important components of mucin-type glycoproteins. This process is known as the protein O-GlcNAcylation modifcation. B3GNT6 expression has been reported to be largely downregulated in gastric and colorectal cancers. B3GNT6 has 3 isoforms with the molecular mass of 29 and 43 kDa. (PMID: 35387659)
