Background Information
CDC42EP2 (CDC42 Effector Protein 2) is a protein-coding gene that belongs to the Borg family of CDC42 effector proteins. The protein it encodes contains a CRIB (Cdc42/Rac interactive-binding) domain, which mediates its interaction with CDC42, a small Rho GTPase that regulates the formation of F-actin-containing structures. Through this binding, CDC42EP2 is thought to play a role in actin filament assembly and cell shape control, and it appears to negatively regulate CDC42 function. The gene is also known by the aliases CEP2 and BORG1, and is located on chromosome 11q12-q13. Its expression is ubiquitous but variable, with notably high levels in the heart and lower levels in the pancreas and liver.
