Background Information
CHRNA9 (nicotinic α9 subunit of cholinergic receptor) gene is located in zone 4 (4p14) of short arm 1 of human chromosome 4, encoding a ligand-gated divalent cation channel protein, belonging to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) superfamily. This subunit can be combined with CHRNA10 subunit to form a heteropentamer or a homopentamer, which is mainly distributed in cochlear outer hair cells, dorsal root ganglion, keratinocytes and immune cells.
