Background Information
ELOVL3 (elongation of very long-chain fatty acids 3) is a member of the ELOVL family of enzymes that synthesize very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). ELOVL3 is expressed primarily in brown and white adipose tissue, skin sebaceous glands, and the liver, synthesizes C20-C24 saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids (PMID: 37847682). ELOVL3 is involved in the regulation of the progression of adipogenesis through activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)γ in mouse adipocytic 3T3-L1 cells (PMID: 22436697, 16326704).
