Background Information
GBGT1 (Globoside alpha-1,3-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 1) gene is located on chromosome 9 (9q34) and comprises 347 amino acids. GBGT1 is the most differentially expressed glycogene involved in the biosynthesis of Fs antigen and GBGT1 is differentially methylated and associated with inflammatory bowel disease (PMID: 25294702). GBGT1 mRNA expression has been observed in a variety of human tissues being highest in placenta and ovary (PMID: 31933576).
