Background Information
HDGF2, also known as HDGFL2 (Hepatoma-Derived Growth Factor-like 2), is a gene that encodes a member of the hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) family. HDGF2 plays a role in LEDGF/p75-independent HIV-1 replication by determining HIV-1 integration site selection. It is also involved in the binding to methylated histones, which suggests a role in epigenetic regulation.
