Background
ANGPTL4 is highly expressed in ATs and liver in humans and mice and to a lesser extent in heart, muscles and other tissues. Expression of ANGPTL4 is regulated by nutritional and metabolic states. For example, ANGPTL4 is induced by fasting and hypoxia in a tissue dependent manner. Its expression is under the regulation of several transcription factors including PPARs, glucocorticoid receptors, hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF1α) and others.
