Background
Cortistatin (CORT) is a multifunctional neuropeptide that inhibits tumor development in a variety of malignant tumors. CORT is widely expressed in the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems, with the best expression in inhibitory neurons in the cerebral cortex. CORT plays a critical role in a variety of physiological and disease processes, including immune responses, heart disease and neurological degeneration. Its overexpression significantly reduces the ability of glioma cells to proliferate and migrate in vitro and to form tumors in vivo. (PMID: 38292193)
