Background

PRR4, or proline-rich 4, is a gene in humans that encodes a protein belonging to the proline-rich protein (PRP) family. The PRR4 gene is expressed in various submucosal glands, including the parotid gland, and is considered a potential biomarker for indicating the functional efficiency of these glands. PRR4, also named Nectin 4, serves as adhesion molecule that participate in the organization of epithelial and endothelial junctions and receptor for herpes simplex virus entry.
