Background
STC2 (Stanniocalcin 2) belongs to the highly conserved family of secreted glycoprotein hormones, which are glycoproteins. STC2 acts as a glycosylated disulfide-linked dimeric protein hormone that regulates calcium and phosphate secretion. STC2 is highly expressed in breast, muscle, cardiac, testicular and pancreatic tissues, and plays a role in a wide variety of biological processes, including calcium and phosphate regulation, cytoprotection, cell development and angiogenesis. STC2 expression appears significantly altered in a variety of tumor cells and tumor tissues, suggesting that it may be involved in tumorigenesis, development and prognosis. (PMID: 36764215)
