Background
SIGLEC14, also known as sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 14, is a member of the Siglec family, which is expressed on myeloid cells and plays a role in recognizing bacterial pathogens, eliciting pro-inflammatory responses. SIGLEC14 is primarily a transmembrane protein found on the surface of myeloid cells. A soluble form of SIGLEC14 is also present in human blood, which is derived from an alternatively spliced mRNA that retains intron 5, preventing the translation of the transmembrane domain. It has been implicated in various diseases, particularly in the context of immune responses and inflammation.
