Background
TNFRSF13B encodes the transmembrane activator and CAML interactor (TACI) receptor, which drives plasma cell differentiation.TACI is the receptor for the B cell–activating factor (BAFF) and a proliferation-induced ligand (APRIL). TNFRSF13B is expressed as long (L) or short (S) isoforms generated by alternative splicing of exon 2, typically after B cell activation. TNFRSF13B-S lacks the cysteine rich domain 1 needed for binding ligands but retains ability to for receptor trimers and to signal. Indeed, TNFRSF13B complexes containing both -S and -L isoforms may exhibit greater sensitivity to agonists than complexes consisting of only L isoform.
