Background Information
IFNA8 (Interferon alpha-8) is a member of the type I interferon family, primarily produced by macrophages and virus-infected cells, and possesses broad-spectrum antiviral activity. This protein exerts its effects by binding to the type I interferon receptor, activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, and inducing the expression of various interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs). Studies have shown that the antiviral activity of IFNA8 is significantly higher than that of other subtypes such as IFNA1, playing a crucial role in defending against infections like vesicular stomatitis virus. Furthermore, the transcription of IFNA8 is regulated by the transcription factor Oct-1, and single nucleotide polymorphisms in its promoter region are associated with the prognosis of glioma patients.
