Background Information
Trans-3-hydroxy-L-proline dehydratase (L3HYPDH) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of trans-3-hydroxy-L-proline to delta(1)-pyrroline-2-carboxylate. This enzyme is involved in the degradation of dietary proteins containing trans-3-hydroxy-L-proline, such as collagen IV. Additionally, L3HYPDH has been identified as an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG) with antiviral activity, particularly against viruses like EV71 (PMID: 35891782). It also plays a role in the genetic regulation of working memory and has been implicated in the mitochondrial pathway associated with autism spectrum disorder (PMID: 32490597).
