Background Information
This gene encodes a protein that belongs minichromosome maintenance (MCM) family, which are known to be essential for initiation of DNA replication. MCM9 binds to chromatin in an ORC-dependent manner and is required for the recruitment of the MCM2-7 helicase onto chromatin. Human MCM9 proteins consist of 1143 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 130 kDa.
