Background
Natural killer group 2D (NKG2D) (CD314) is an activating receptor on NK cells, CD8+ T cells, NKT cells and γδ+ T cells. Interleukin (IL)-15-induced up-regulation of NKG2D on intraepithelial cytotoxic T cells (IELs) and NKG2D ligands on enterocytes is a hallmark in CD and is responsible for epithelial cell destruction and subsequent villous atrophy.
