Background
TNFSF12 (Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 12), also known as TWEAK (TNF-related weak inducer of apoptosis), belongs to the TNF superfamily and is expressed in a variety of tissues and by certain types of immune cells and cancer cell lines, which could activate the processing of initiator caspase-8 as well as caspase-9 and lead to the extrinsic and intrinsic apoptosis. co-culturing with alveolar macrophages or treating with TNFSF12 substantially enhanced fbroblast cell proliferation and resulted in increased expression of extracellular matrix (ECM) and fbrosis-related factors.
