Background Information

PDS5B (PDS5 Cohesin Scc1-like Protein B) is a protein associated with sister chromatid cohesion and maintenance of chromosome structure. It plays a significant role in cell cycle regulation, DNA repair, and gene expression. PDS5B interacts with the cohesin complex to ensure the proper separation of sister chromatids during cell division. Additionally, PDS5B is crucial in DNA damage repair, particularly during homologous recombination, helping to maintain genomic stability. It also indirectly affects gene expression and chromatin structure by modulating the function of the cohesin complex. PDS5B is widely expressed during embryonic development and is highly expressed in the brain and testes in adulthood. Its dysfunction is associated with multiple diseases, including Cohesinopathies and Cornelia de Lange syndrome.
