Background Information
Pancreatic lipase-related proteins 1 and 2 (PNLIPRP1 and PNLIPRP2) are highly conserved paralogs within the classic neutral lipase family. Despite structural similarities to canonical pancreatic triglyceride lipase, their catalytic activities diverge drastically. PNLIPRP2 possesses broad-spectrum lipolytic capabilities, digesting galactolipids and phospholipids, which is essential for neonatal milk consumption. Conversely, PNLIPRP1 lacks detectable lipolytic activity against known substrates but functions in human metabolic regulation and exocrine homeostasis.(PMID: 1379598; PMID: 34290745; PMID: 39137110)
