Background
Angiotensinogen (AGT) is a key component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), which plays a crucial role in blood pressure regulation and cardiovascular homeostasis Angiotensinogen is expressed in various tissues, including the liver, kidneys, and brain. In rats, the expression of angiotensinogen can be influenced by various factors such as stress, diet, and hormonal changes. For example, angiotensinogen expression in the brain can be affected by dehydration and salt loading, leading to changes in blood pressure and fluid balance. Transgenic rats with ubiquitous expression of angiotensinogen have been developed to study the role of the protective arm of the RAS in cardio-renal diseases.
