Background
Resistin (also called ADSF: adipocyte secreted factor; FIZZ3: found in inflammatory zone) is a polypeptide hormone first reported from human and rodent adipocyte. Resistin is a member of the resistin-like molecule (RELM) hormone family, which includes RELMα, RELMβ, and RELMγ. Resistin mRNA expression is higher in male than female rats in WAT and BAT. Resistin has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases, including atherosclerosis.
