Background Information
TAC4, or tachykinin 4, is a gene that encodes for a member of the tachykinin family of peptides, which are known for their rapid stimulation of contraction in intestinal muscles and other physiological functions. The tachykinin family includes three members in mammals: TAC1, TAC3, and TAC4. TAC4, in particular, is involved in a variety of physiological roles and has been implicated in several biological processes.
