Background Information
Tyrosine aminotransferase, also known as tyrosine transaminase, is the first enzyme in the catabolic pathway of tyrosine. The gene of this transaminase is regulated by glucocorticoid hormones as well as via the cAMP pathway. TAT reversibly catalyses Tyr to 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate (4-HPP), which is the substrate for pathways producing plastoquinone31, 32, tocopherols33, phenolic acid14, 28, and benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BIA)34 in plants, although tyrosine is synthesised from 4-HPP by TAT in bacteria (28687763).
