Background Information
The WNT gene family consists of structurally related genes which encode secreted signaling proteins. There are 19 Wnt genes in the human genome that encode functionally distinct Wnt proteins. These proteins have been implicated in oncogenesis and in several developmental processes, including regulation of cell fate and patterning during embryogenesis. Wnt members bind to the Frizzled family of seven-pass transmembrane proteins and activate several signaling pathway.
