Background
Human Neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) is a member of the neurotrophin family that also includes NGF, BDNF, and NT-4/5. NT-3 is essential for the development, survival, and differentiation of neurons in the central and peripheral nervous systems. It signals primarily through the TrkC receptor, with lower affinity for TrkA/TrkB, promoting neuronal growth, synaptic plasticity, and survival. NT-3 is widely expressed in neuronal and non-neuronal tissues during development and adulthood, and plays a key trophic role in neuronal circuit formation, proprioception, and long-term neural maintenance.
