Background Information

CCR6, the gene encoding chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 6, that was a specific marker for Th17 cells, distinguishing them from other helper T-cells. Although CCR6 also expressed in IL-17-producing γδ T cells as well as in subsets of B cells and dendritic cells (PMID: 19830744 ). CCR6 polymorphism was associated with rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility (PMID: 20453841). CD196 is involved in host defense and inflammation at epithelial sites and in IL-17-driven autoimmunity in human diseases.
