Background Information
EIF2B5 encodes translation initiation factor eIF-2B subunit epsilon protein (PMID 8688466). EIF2B5 mutations compromise the induction of GFAP-expressing astrocytes in VWM (vanishing white matter) leukodystrophy (PMID:15723074, PMID:15776425). The upregulation of EIF2B5 is associated with cancer such as human pulmonary adenocarcinoma cell and breast cancer (PMID:24366584, PMID:24979338). EIF2B5 also has 65kDa truncated protein isoform (PMID:28961236).
