Background Information
ITIH3, or inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 3, is a gene in humans that encodes the heavy chain subunit of the pre-alpha-trypsin inhibitor complex. This complex plays a role in stabilizing the extracellular matrix through its ability to bind hyaluronic acid. The gene is located on chromosome 3 and is part of the inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor family gene cluster. ITIH3 has restricted expression primarily toward the liver, with an RPKM value of 228.8, indicating a relatively high level of expression in this organ.
