  Various lysates were subjected to SDS PAGE followed by western blot with 86758-1-RR (Serpin A4/Kallistatin antibody) at dilution of 1:10000 incubated at room temperature for 1.5 hours. This data was developed using the same antibody clone with 86758-1-PBS in a different storage buffer formulation.

  Plasma of eight individual healthy human donors was measured. The Serpin A4/Kallistatin concentration of detected samples was determined to be 10.78 μg/mL with a range of 3.02-21.69 μg/mL.

Background Information

Serpin A4 is also named Kallistatin and Peptidase inhibitor 4 (PI-4). Kallistatin was first identified in human plasma as a tissue kallikrein-binding protein and a serine proteinase inhibitor. Kallistatin via its two structural elements regulates differential signaling cascades, and thus a wide spectrum of biological functions (PMID: 28427524). Kallistatin via the active site promotes neovascularization by stimulating VEGF levels in endothelial progenitor cells. Second, kallistatin inhibits or induces apoptosis depending on cell types. Kallistatin via its heparin-binding site inhibits angiogenesis by blocking vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-induced growth, migration and adhesion of endothelial cells. Kallistatin can act as an antioxidant or pro-oxidant (PMID: 28742513).
